Candidates frequently send a cover letter along with their resume or applications for employment as a way of introducing themselves to potential employers and explaining why they want the job.
However, often the cover letter has been written by someone other than the applicant and does not give a true reflection of the candidate. The cover letters usually gets skimmed over with little to no interest. Most recruiters look at the resume for more information about the applicants.
Also, with the popularity of social networks such as LinkedIn, recruiters can get a sense of a candidate ‘s profile, how organized it is, their picture and the recommendations they have received.
